Advice for endovenous laser therapy patients

If you have undergone endovenous laser therapy, you may resume normal activities.  There are a few exceptions and some suggestions which you should follow following the procedure:

  1. Try to walk at least 20 minutes twice a day.  You may walk more if you wish. Walking will help the legs to recover more quickly.
  2. Refrain from taking a hot bath for 72 hours.  You may shower and clean the treated leg.
  3. Please also refrain from vigorous gym exercises or running for 72 hours.
  4. Do not fly for one week.
  5. Avoid exposure to excessive sun for two weeks.
  6. It is normal to experience bruising, soreness and a tightening sensation in the 2-3 week period following treatment.  This should begin to subside after two weeks. You can take over the counter pain medications for your discomfort.
  7. You will need to wear compression stockings for the advised period, taking them off to shower, but leaving them on the rest of the day and night.
